![]() Today, for some reason, companies are putting these stupid computer chips in everything and the younger generation all seem to be super turned on by electronic crap that is not needed. That kind of stuff will dry out and can find it’s way to the hose too or get stuck in a vent screen cover. That lint trap doesn’t catch all that lint or other stuff like pet hair or paper if it got washed and shredded. But that is a temporary fix and that should be replaced. If it is a stiff or stuck moving flapper door, some light oil might get it moving freely. If there is a cage or screen over that opening it can get clogged too with lint or other stuff. If it is stiff moving, the exhaust air might not be opening the vent enough and causing the Dryer to overheat and shut down in about 10 minutes. Also make sure there are no plants that are blocking the door from opening. Check to make sure that the door is not stuck and freely moving. It keeps the critters from getting inside the house. Some have a hinged flapper door that will open when the dryer is running. Next, if you have a through wall vent, check that. If you have never check that in years there could be a a build up of lint causing a restricted flow and overheating the dryer. One thing I will add is to first check the exhaust hose to make sure there isn’t a clog or kink in the hose. The list of problems might not cover everything and there could be more things causing the problems. But in short, there are several problems that can cause this issue in GE Dryers. I will link an article I found for future reference at the bottom. I know I’m late to this as my sister has a GE Dryer that shuts off at about 10 minutes. The door switch is relatively easy to replace and is usually not very expensive. If it doesn't make a click, it can be checked with an ohm meter or continuity checker. If the door switch makes a clicking sound when activated it is probably not defective. ![]() Most door switches will make an audible click when they are activated. If the door switch fails, the dryer won't start at all. The door switch is located near the dryer door and is activated when the door is closed. If the dryer start switch does not have continuity when it is activated, it will need to be replaced. If the dryer hums when the start switch is activated, or if the motor runs only while activating the start switch, the motor might be defective or something might be binding the drum preventing it from turning freely. Test the switch with an ohm meter or continuity checker. If the start switch fails the dryer won't start or make any noise. Depending on the model, either press a button or turn a dial to start the dryer. The start switch is on the dryer control panel. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it has to be replaced. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. The thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. Reference my previous answer tp this question here:įirst unplug it for 5 minutes to allow it to reset.
